The EthermacKansas City Chiefs celebrated their Super Bowl Victory Wednesday with a parade joined by their fans in the streets of downtown Kansas City.
After the parade, two gunmen opened fire that killed one person and injured 21 others, including nine children. Law enforcement officials' say that the shooing may have stemmed from a dispute that turned deadly.
Shooting at Kansas City:Chiefs parade, several injured
The victim that was killed in the shooting was later identified as Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a popular local radio host for community radio station KKFI and co-host of the program “Taste of Tejano,” featuring Hispanic music, the Kansas City Star reports.
Lopez-Galvan was the 80th fatal victim in a mass shooting in the U.S. this year. The Valentine's Day mass shooting in Kansas City was the 50th reported so far in 2024, in the seventh week of the year.
Atlanta high school shooting, four injured
Four students were shot in the parking lot of Benjamin E. Mays High School.
At approximately 4:00 p.m Atlanta Police Department responded to the scene after a report of a fight on the school's campus. Atlanta Public Schools police officers also arrived on the scene and assisted the police department with the transport of the wounded victims to a local hospital.
"We're working together now to try to figure out who committed this crime," said Atlanta Public Schools Police Chief, Ron Applin, during the press conference on Wednesday.
A vehicle was stopped at Baker Road and Commercial Drive. Police detained three individuals that were taken back to the police headquarters and interviewed.
The Atlanta Police Department confirmed that the three people were detained are a 35-year-old woman, her 17-year-old daughter and a male, according to a report by WSB-TV.
Police say the investigation to what caused the shooting is still ongoing.

On February 14, 2018, Nikolas Cruz, 19, opened fire on students and staff at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

After leaving the school's campus, Cruz was detained by a Broward County police officer.
Cruz was charged with 17 counts of first-degree murder and 17 counts of attempted murder. He later pleaded guilty to all charges, History.com states.
Another shooting the took place 10 years prior at a Illinois university.
On February 14, 2008, a Northern Illinois University alumni opened fire in a crowd of students on campus.
Steven Kazmierczak, 27, killed five students and injured 21 more people, before fatally shooting himself, the university reported.
